Obsessive self-involvement is boring.
I know this because of this guy I knew from college who lives in NYC now. I used to be involved with him. How, I still don't know. He was... unbearably focused on himself. That's the nicest way I can say it. On Facebook, his status and profile are among the most irritating of all my acquaintances.
Part of education is taking a lesson and applying it to other situations. Today's exercise in the blogosphere showed that blogs are notorious for committing the crime of narcissism. I can't even tell you how reading some blogs makes me want to vomit in my shoe. And then throw said shoe at the author. Serious-ly. I might have to revamp my blogroll. No worries, all of you will be making the cut.
But in some ironic twist, I also can see where my own self-involvement must be nauseating.
I'd apologize but I'm too busy contemplating my own navel.

I blame Donna Strickland.
So here's my inflammatory comment...
I have another friend who moved out east from the midwest for schoolin'. She's made the observation that people out east, at least those in Boston, tend to be really in to themselves.
Any thoughts on how broadly applicable this trend might be?
